Tailored Learning
Tailored Learning (TL) refers to personalised and flexible educational approaches designed to meet the unique needs of students who face barriers to learning and engagement. These barriers may include, but are not limited to, social, emotional, behavioural, cultural, or academic challenges. TL aims to support students who are at risk of disengaging from mainstream education, providing them with customised learning programs that consider their individual circumstances and abilities.
Tailored Learning is designed for students in Years 8 – 12+, with a focus on senior secondary students. It replaces what was formerly known as Flexible Learning Options (FLO).
Tailored Learning supports students by:
- promoting a sense of belonging
- building capacity to engage and learn
- supporting wellbeing
Tailored Learning aims to re-engage students in their education with individualised support and a strong focus on student voice.
Tailored Learning provides flexible ways to support your child in learning and overcoming barriers, providing transition pathways. Tailored Learning also helps young people work out a future pathway for their life.
Learning can happen in different places, such as a space at school, offsite managed spaces, community sites, TAFE, other registered training organisations (RTOs), or online.
Can my child still gain their SACE?
Students can follow a pathway which best suits their individual goals. This may include VET courses, an apprenticeship or SACE. Tailored Learning is designed to keep students on track for graduation, with learning activities aligned with their goals.
Urrbrae Agricultural High School students demonstrating disengagement from learning for a variety of reasons may be eligible for Tailored Learning.
Tailored Learning has one intake at the start of the school year and is unable to accept students throughout the year.
