Royal Show
Royal Adelaide Show
Urrbrae Agricultural High School is one of the most involved organisations in the Royal Adelaide Show and we are proud to see ourselves as a key partner in the state’s largest community event. This year saw a record number of entries from Urrbrae across a significant number of competitions from wine, olive oil and orchids to stud cattle and sheep. Over 800 students and staff take part in the diversity of competitions and activities offered by the Royal Show. Our students are also actively engaged in supporting the lead up to the actual Show through assisting the Wool Competition stewarding and the set-up of key areas. Urrbrae receives significant media recognition, across the state and nationally, for our involvement in the Show. This is a mutually beneficial outcome of the ongoing working relationship between the Royal Adelaide Show Society and Urrbrae Agricultural High School.
The Royal Show Learning Centre was managed and coordinated by Urrbrae Agricultural High School for the first time in 2022 with 200 Urrbrae staff and students supporting the diverse range of activities offered by the Learning Centre that were enjoyed by thousands of visitors. This joint venture between Urrbrae and the Show Society has been extremely beneficial for both organisations, as the Learning Centre provides the opportunity to educate the community of South Australia about the importance of primary industry to the economy, environment and social fabric of the state.
Royal Adelaide Show Highlights
Urrbrae had a record number of competition entries and student and staff involvement in a diverse range of show exhibits and competitions. The positive feedback from the wider community and the competition results were outstanding, which reflect the huge efforts of our Urrbrae student clubs, staff, sponsors and industry partners.
The Learning Centre
2024 is the third year that the Learning Centre has been managed by Urrbrae, with Agriculture Teacher, Larissa Tallent, coordinating the activities, sponsorship, and student and staff involvement. The Centre is an interactive and informative exhibit where young people and their parents or carers can have fun and learn about agriculture in a safe and supervised environment. Over 150,000 visitors enjoyed a range of daily hands-on activities and demonstrations that invited the young, and the not-so-young. to learn all things agricultural, with a soft approach to discovering where our food comes from and an introduction to the paddock to plate concept. Urrbrae have just signed an agreement with the Department for Education and the Royal Show Society to coordinate the centre for another 5 years which is very exciting for our school!
