Varroa Mite Management Workshop – A Wake-Up Call for SA Beekeepers

On Saturday 21st June, teachers Imogen Connell and Michael Brokus attended the Varroa Management Training Workshop run by PIRSA – a full-day, comprehensive program focused on detecting, managing and treating Varroa mite.

The looming arrival of Varroa mite in South Australia is predicted to wipe out 90–95% of wild and unmanaged bee colonies – a devastating impact that will ripple across both apiary operations and pollinator-dependent industries.

PIRSA is offering these workshops free for all beekeepers – whether you’re registered or not. This is an incredible opportunity to learn directly from experts and be prepared before the mite arrives.

We’re incredibly grateful for the ongoing support PIRSA has shown our school and we’d like to give back by encouraging all local beekeepers to:

– Attend a PIRSA varroa training workshop
– Reach out to the PIRSA Varroa Development Team if you need support
– Register your hives – it’s quick, easy and essential

Let’s all work together to protect our bees, our farms, and our food security.
